Tried to run diagnostic by pressing D and power button, and got screen to blink different colors, but the laptop shut off after the blinking.This step brought me back to blinking power light again when pressing the power button. Screen came on for a fraction of a second along with keyboard lights but process did not complete everything turned off. Tried bios recovery, press CTRL and ESC and plug in DC jack.This procedure changed the behavior a little, with battery plugged in, now the fans come on but just for a 1 second then everything turns off.

Cleaned it up and applied new paste before closing it up again. Found dried up thermal paste in a few places other than the CPU and GPU.

Dismantled the whole laptop to remove the motherboard so I can disconnect the CMOS battery.

Unfortunately no luck with this either, charger still not recognized.

Bought a new dell slim 130w adapter $60.

It did not fix the charging problem this time. Just changed it because it worked the last time.

Changed the charging jack (no broken pieces, but it s a $10 part).

So disconnected the battery again and was able to boot up and use the laptop.

Deleted the battery and changer drivers in Windows device manager to force reinstall, reconnected the battery but got blinking while light on power button.

No change in behavior when battery plugged in.

Updated the BIOS to the latest version using force update (cmd line), this is needed when updating without battery.

It was very sluggish so I disabled speed step int he BIOS.

Disconnect the battery, and laptop turned on and boots, well at least the laptop is not a brick.

Did the whole remove cable/press power button to discharge flea power and plug back in, no luck.

I just signed up after googling the problem and came across this post so I could post my experience.

I have older Lenovo and Acer ultrabooks that have given me no problems at all, still working after 8 yrs. This is the second time the laptop quit charging, the first time 4 months back (just out of warranty) I changed the DC jack cable and it started charging again. I am able to boot the laptop although it runs very sluggish until you disable speed step in the bios. My battery is totally discharged because in addition I have a power adapter not recognized problem and will not charge battery. The only thing that has worked is to open the back and disconnect the battery.

Ironically dell does not indicate this error code anywhere anywhere. I have the same problem with a 9550 (blinking power button white light only, and front charging light comes on when plug is inserted and goes off about a second later), bought in Oct 2017, they changed the battery last year on it too, started about 2 weeks back and I am totally frustrated, I paid nearly $1,200 for this laptop.

It gave me errors about my CMOS battery if that makes any difference, and it was crashing before I updated windows and BIOS, but now it works perfectly other than it doesn't charge sometimes (plugged in, not charging). The only thing I changed was I was on a different outlet when I plugged it in (and obviously let it sit for a months). one day I decided to try again and it's just working and I have no clue why.
